Report of Actions of Mississippi Valley Presbytery (PCA) Summer Stated Meeting

Written by Andrew Barnes | Thursday, August 5, 2010

Mississippi Valley Presbytery met on Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010 at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS.

The retiring Moderator, TE Scott Phillips, opened the meeting with prayer and the members elected the new Moderator, RE Wayne Morrison of the Second Presbyterian Church of Yazoo City, MS.

The Stated Clerk, TE Roger Collins, gave his report and had a few men give reports on various ministries within the Presbytery. TE Guy Waters gave a report on RTS, RE John Williams of the Trinity Presbyterian Church (Jackson) gave a report on the Sons of the King ministry, TE Don Malin described his work as a chaplain, and finally TE David Gilbert reported on the First and Second Presbyterian Churches work in Yazoo City, following the April tornado that came through that town.

The morning worship was led by retiring Moderator TE Scott Phillips. He preached from 1 Kings 17:1-16 entitled “Ravens and Widows”, which was followed by a celebration of the Lord’s Supper.

Following lunch, the Credentials Committee presented two candidates/interns who were received by the Presbytery: Mr. Ryan Dean of Redeemer Church in Jackson and Mr. Brad Mills of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Also, Mr. Ricky Glenn was before the Presbytery for licensure/ordination and passed.

Ricky grew up in Stringer, MS and is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi (2001) and Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson (2010). The Presbytery found him to have no exceptions to the Westminster Standards. He has been called to the Macon Presbyterian Church in Macon, MS. His ordination service is set for August 14th, 5:00pm at the Macon Presbyterian Church.

The Shepherding and Advisory Committee (S/A) presented their report. TE Bill Smith’s pastoral relationship with the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Louisville, MS was dissolved. The same church at this meeting was sadly dissolved, and their members were put under the S/A until they choose where they will transfer their membership. Most if not all of these members will probably transfer to the First Presbyterian Church of Louisville.

The Presbytery then elected their first nominee for Moderator of the next stated meeting. TE David Gilbert of Second Presbyterian Church of Yazoo City was elected as first nominee.

The next stated meeting will be held November 2nd, 2010 at the Twin Lakes Retreat Center located in Florence, MS. The meeting was closed with prayer by TE Guy Richardson.
