Larry pastored churches in Mississippi, Hawaii, and South Carolina. During those early years in Mississippi, he was the stated clerk of the South Mississippi Presbytery (PCUS). He was one of the founding fathers of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and was elected the first coordinator of Mission to North America.
Reverend Larry C. Mills (08/03/1938-08/03/2025), 87, went home to be with the Lord on his birthday, August 3, 2025, just weeks after the passing of his beloved wife of 66 years, Sally Anne Poole Mills. Larry and Sally were bound by a deep faith and devotion to each other, their family, and their Lord.
Larry graduated from Belhaven in 1961. Soon after graduation, he and Sally moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he did graduate studies at Westminster Theological Seminary and Reformed Episcopal Seminary. The couple resided in Richmond, Virginia while Larry completed his studies at Union Theological Seminary. He pastored churches in Mississippi, Hawaii, and South Carolina. During those early years in Mississippi, he was the stated clerk of the South Mississippi Presbytery (PCUS). He was one of the founding fathers of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and was elected the first coordinator of Mission to North America.
In 1967, at age 28, Larry was elected as the first male graduate to Belhaven’s Board of Trustees. He has served as assistant to the president of Far East Broadcasting Company, the executive director/ CEO of Liebenzell Mission, vice president of leadership development international, and as assistant to the president of Belhaven as well as executive director of the Belhaven Foundation from 2003-2014. Throughout the years, Larry ministered in five continents.
Larry is survived by his four children: Larry, Jr (Jenny Mills), Sarah Hazel (Reese Hazel), Stephen Mills (Svetlana), and Elizabeth (Chris McMahon) nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and beloved nieces, great nieces and nephews.
Larry loved the Lord deeply, treasured his family, and poured himself into friendships, ministry, and the people God placed in his life. His life was a living testimony of grace, humility, and tireless service. Larry will be remembered with love, respect, and immense gratitude by all who were touched by his ministry and presence.
Memorial contributions in Larry’s honor can be sent to either Belhaven University, where Larry and Sally first met and received alumni of the year in 2013, or to the French Camp Academy.
Memorial Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1390 North State Street Jackson, MS 39202 at 11am on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Visitation will be held prior to the Memorial Service from 10-11am.
