PCUSA Group announces a one day ‘Resourcing’ event for congregations exploring dismissal

Written by The Layman | Thursday, September 22, 2011

Attendance is limited to “those pastors and elders who currently serve a congregation that is interested in realigning its denominational affiliation from the PCUSA.”

The New Wineskins Association of Churches (NWAC) has announced an event designed for Presbyterian Church (USA) congregations that want to pursue dismissal to either the Fellowship of Presbyterian’s (FOP) proposed New Reformed Body or existing Reformed denominations. The event will be held on October 24 at a Pittsburgh, Pa., airport hotel and will also be available via webcast for those unable to attend in person.

In many respects a forerunner of The Fellowship of Presbyterians, NWAC “has sought for nearly a decade to cast a vision of Biblically faithful, ethically accountable, missionally focused brand of Presbyterianism,” the press release states. As differentiating from the PCUSA required some in New Wineskins to seek separation from the PCUSA, NWAC became identified as “the leaving group.” What was once considered a stigma is now acknowledged as experiential expertise for those seeking to pursue Tiers 4 & 5 as outlined by the FOP.

The NWAC release says, “We are overjoyed at the efforts of The Fellowship of Presbyterians to cast such a vision for churches of like mind throughout the PCUSA who seek to do and be church in a new way. We agree that there are two faithful options for congregations responding to the recent actions of the PCUSA. Some are called to invest anew as missionaries in the PCUSA and seek to wrest the denomination away from her trend toward cultural accommodation These congregations will need to work together to forge new ways of being authentic expressions of the Church in the midst of a denominational reality that has separated herself in significant ways from the Church universal.”
