Covenant Presbyterian, Monroe, LA joins the EPC

Written by Carol McDonald | Tuesday, June 1, 2010

To celebrate this new beginning, Covenant Presbyterian Church has invited its former pastor, the Rev. John T. Mabray, of Lynchburg, Virginia, to conduct a formal service to install church officers

Covenant Presbyterian Church of Monroe, Louisiana was founded in 1952 by members of the old Southern Presbyterian Church. In 1987 the congregation agreed to become a Presbyterian USA Church.

A return to its traditional conservative roots is the purpose for which this congregation recently voted to become affiliated with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
………

The EPC is comprised of more than 260 churches and about 85,000 members. They have a world missions program with a priority on sending missionaries to unreached people. At present, there are approximately 90 missionaries serving 20 countries. They are eager to plant churches across the United States and especially in urban communities and college towns.
………

Covenant Presbyterian Church was welcomed into the Central South Presbytery of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church at its meeting last month in Corinth, Miss.

There are presently eight Evangelical Presbyterian Churches in Louisiana; however, Covenant Presbyterian is the only Evangelical Presbyterian Church in north Louisiana. The EPC General Assembly will meet in Denver, Colo., in June. Member churches are encouraged to send two lay people for every pastor attending.
