With thanksgiving to the Lord, Westminster is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Chad Van Dixhoorn to the position of Professor of Church History and Director of the Craig Center for the Study of the Westminster Standards, beginning June 1, 2018. Dr. Van Dixhoorn has been serving Reformed Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. since 2008, and was recently appointed as the Chancellor’s Professor of Historical Theology at RTS.

“Westminster continues to express its deep appreciation for our partnership with RTS,” said Dr. Peter Lillback, Professor and President at Westminster. “We share a common appreciation for the great scholars who have trained and served at our respective institutions through the years.”

Those familiar with Dr. Van Dixhoorn’s work will know his expertise in the Westminster Standards. His publications include God’s Ambassadors: the Westminster Assembly and the Reformation of Preaching, 1643–1653(Grand Rapids, 2017) and Confessing the Faith: A Reader’s Guide to the Westminster Confession of Faith(Edinburgh, 2014), with translations in progress for Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. He also edited the five-volume The Minutes and Papers of the Westminster Assembly, 1643–1652 (Oxford, 2012). His monograph, The Westminster Assembly, is due from Oxford University Press in 2020.

Dr. Van Dixhoorn is an ordained minister in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. He has served in pastoral ministry in Cambridge, England (2006–2008), and in Vienna, VA (2008–2015). He has also served on multiple committees of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church at the Presbytery and General Assembly levels.

Dr. Van Dixhoorn has been married to his wife, Emily, since 1998 and they have five children: Victoria, Caroline, Ashley, Peter, and Charlotte.

We are thankful that as the Lord continues to keep Westminster faithful to her heritage, he also continues to bring us faithful scholars and ministers of his gospel in order to train pastors for his church. Please thank the Lord with us for this new appointment, which is a testimony of God’s continued grace in the life of Westminster Theological Seminary.
