Tornado Update: MNA Disaster Response Mobilizes for Hattiesburg/Petal Miss.

Volunteers and gifts sought to assist with relief and recovery in tornado-ravaged Hattiesburg

Written by Staff | Thursday, February 14, 2013

At the request of First Presbyterian Church-Hattiesburg MS, MNA Disaster Response is mobilizing volunteers who would be willing to come and help meet the needs of the local PCA members and reach out to the greater community through Hope for Hattiesburg, a local outreach ministry of FPC-Hattiesburg. Day teams are welcome.

On Sunday evening, February 10, an EF-4 tornado with sustained winds of 145 mph ripped through the communities of Hattiesburg and Petal in central Mississippi. Hundreds of homes and businesses were damaged. The Presbyterian Church in America’s Mission to North America Disaster Response team has had assessors on the ground within hours of the tornado assisting local PCA leadership with assessments and first response. The PCA facilities in this area are undamaged; however, numerous members of these local PCA congregations have sustained major damage to their homes.

How you can help:

PRAY – for those who have been impacted by this tornado and for the volunteers who are attending to their needs.

GIVE – As you can imagine the financial needs are great. To assist with serving the needs of those affected by the Central Mississippi Tornado financially a designated fund has been established by MNA. To give, click here or mail your donation marked ‘Central MS Tornado’ to MNA, 1700 N. Brown Road, Suite 101, Lawrenceville GA 30043. Please know 100% of all donations goes to serve the needs of those impacted by the disaster; MNA does not take any administrative fees.

GO – At the request of First Presbyterian Church-Hattiesburg MS, MNA Disaster Response is mobilizing volunteers who would be willing to come and help meet the needs of the local PCA members and reach out to the greater community through Hope for Hattiesburg, a local outreach ministry of FPC-Hattiesburg. Day teams are welcome; teams requiring lodging are asked to come self-contained (with their own food and water) and to arrive on Thursday, work Friday and Saturday, and are encouraged to participate in Sunday worship before departing.

All teams must register through MNA Disaster Response to be placed on the schedule to serve!
