The Value of Hardship

When we are able to lose everything because we know that we get to keep Jesus, this makes God look great to the world.

Written by Zachary Conover | Friday, July 3, 2026

Anything that hardship can take or prosperity can give pales in comparison to the One with everlasting treasures at His right hand. He is infinitely valuable.

Christian suffering proves to the world that God is great.

Think about it.

Everyone experiences suffering. Hardships and trials mark the human race. We all experience loss, adversity, and various afflictions.

But there’s something unique about suffering for righteousness sake.

Unbelieving suffering, that is, suffering outside of Christ, can never result in joy. It may teach non-Christians lessons about the importance of community, personal discipline, and maybe even self-sacrifice. But I have never seen an unbeliever rejoice in the midst of sorrow.

That can only come from a Christian perspective of eternity with an intimate awareness that suffering has purpose.

That transcendent meaning points to an unshakable reality beyond the loss that has infinite value.

Hardship does not create it, but simply reveals it.

All hardship involves the loss of something or someone we value.

We value health when our bodies are in pain.

We value relationships when our friends and family leave us.
