In God’s word, we can clearly see God’s righteous rules, His unending kindness, and His perfect love. When someone perverts these glorious truths for their own ends, we must not welcome them into our hearts and minds.
Justice. Kindness. Love. As Christians, these are words that we let into our company with enthusiasm. We are those who do justice and love kindness (Mic 6:8). We worship the God who is love (1 John 4:8), and we are known by our love (John 13:35). But there is a danger of accepting even good words into our lives with no inspection. The problem is not with the words, but with the dictionary that defines these words. Yes, many troublesome words enter our lives through the trojan horse of a bad dictionary.
Words matter. Specifically, how you define those words matter. When the culture comes with the word “Love”, but they fail to define it properly, I am no longer bound to accept it. I may be considered “unloving” by my rejection, but that is only true in that I refuse to love with a false love. I refuse to let in words defined under false premises. It would be like me refusing to bring home a man who calls himself my brother. He may use my brother’s name, wear his clothes, and bear some resemblance, but he’s a liar. And I couldn’t care less if anyone says I’m unbrotherly because I won’t let the stranger live with me. By refusing the liar, I am protecting my family and those around me. By rejecting the false brother, I am actually showing that I really know and love my real brother.
