The August Gatherings of FPO and ECO are just weeks away!

Fellowship of Presbyterians and ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians combine forces to sponsor conferences

Written by Staff | Thursday, August 2, 2012

The Fellowship and ECO will each devote a portion of our time to meeting separately; news and updates, questions and answers, building networks and creating some initial affinity groups. In addition, 22 breakout sessions will cover a wide variety of topics on different aspects of living together in these new relationships.

As we have launched The Fellowship of Presbyterians and ECO, we have talked about a “new way of being the Church.” At the August Gatherings we are going to breathe life into those words. How?

Strengthening GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS: Beginning the evening before each Gathering, we will be highlighting relationships with the global Church. The Outreach Foundation, Presbyterian Frontier Fellowship, and The Antioch Partners will be leading these pre-gathering events. Hunter Farrell from PC(USA) World Mission will join them to offer breakout sessions on global mission throughout the Gatherings.

Focus on WORSHIP: Four times in two days we will share celebration worship. Preachers in Colorado Springs will be Andrea Messinger, First Presbyterian Church in Covina, CA, and James Kim, Little Church on the Prairie in Lakewood, WA. Atlanta preachers will be Bryan Dunagan, Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, GA, and Julia Leeth, Executive Presbyter for Stockton Presbytery in California. Worship leaders, choirs, and instrumentalists from the host congregations will lead us in songs of praise and joy!

Focus on THEOLOGY: Richard Mouw, President of Fuller Seminary, will lay the foundation for our renewed emphasis on reading, studying, and being formed by our confessions. How do we allow documents from different times and places to guide our contemporary understanding and application of Scripture?

Focus on CHURCH PLANTING: Drawing on extensive experience in the US and abroad, Terry Gyger, Executive Director of City to City, will cast a vision for starting communities to nurture disciples of Jesus Christ. (Editor’s Note:  Terry is a PCA minister and former coordination of Mission to North America.)  In addition, we will hear the stories of First Presbyterian Church Pomona, CA, (CSP) and Kairos Church, Atlanta, GA, (ATL) from people invested in God’s mission in these diverse communities.

Focus on MISSIONAL MINISTRY: Tim Keller, scholar, author, and pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church (PCA) in NYC, will teach from Acts 8, “Joy in the City: Christian Mission in the 21st Century.” Tim will be speaking live in Colorado Springs and virtually in Atlanta.

Sharing VISION: The Fellowship and ECO will each devote a portion of our time to meeting separately; news and updates, questions and answers, building networks and creating some initial affinity groups. In addition, 22 breakout sessions will cover a wide variety of topics on different aspects of living together in these new relationships.

Experiencing FELLOWSHIP AND JOY! Throughout these events, we will have opportunities to meet others who share our convictions and heritage in a life-giving atmosphere of joy!

You can still register online for Colorado Springs or Atlanta. Your registration fee includes conference materials and three meals. Once online registration closes August 9, the registration fee will be $175.
