Special Webcast on “Restoring Erskine” Scheduled for Wednesday, March 17, at 1:00 EDST

Written by Don K. Clements | Tuesday, March 16, 2010

My guest on the program today will be ARP special commission member Ken Wingate. Ken is also an Attorney, Author, a member of the South Carolina Board of Higher Education, and an Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia .

“Knowing The Truth” with Pastor Kevin Boling is a live, call-in radio program providing Doctrinal Dialog, Cultural Commentary and Insightful Interviews with some of today’s foremost Christian authors and leaders.

In the latest edition of World Magazine founder Joel Belz writes an article about the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church (ARP) and the bold move that it has taken against doctrinal drift in its College and Seminary.

Joel noted in a previous article about how a transformed denomination was now seeking to transform its college and seminary that the ARP “has itself moved decidedly to the right-and now wants to take firm steps to bring its college and seminary with it.”

To accomplish the goal of reclaiming the two ARP academic institutions, the synod of the 30,000 member ARP Church appointed a committee to investigate the doctrinal integrity of the denominations liberal arts college (Erskine College) and seminary (Erskine Theological Seminary) – located on the same campus in Due West, South Carolina.

A couple weeks ago the committee submitted its report to an unprecedented mid-year meeting of the denominations highest court. The results were, (as Joel reported) “by a two-to-one majority, the court voted to replace the existing board of the college and seminary with a board more likely to reflect the denomination’s more conservative stance.”

Since that vote, many supporters and critics of the ARP’s decision have very strongly expressed their views.

My guest on the program today will be ARP special commission member Ken Wingate.

Ken is also an Attorney, Author, a member of the South Carolina Board of Higher Education, and an Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia .

You’re invited to join the conversation. Simply call 1.888.660.9535 (between 1-2:00pm EDT).
