“The king is not saved by his great army, a warrior is not delivered by his great strength…..Behold the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His steadfast love” (Psalm 33:16,18). And he also says, “Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle” (Psalm 144:1).
The short answer is “Yes” and “No.”
Some self-righteous Christians would tell us, “We must never believe in ourselves, we must only believe in God.” Then they applaud themselves for being so much more spiritually superior than the rest of us.
“No” is one answer, because our faith is always ultimately in the Lord. Jesus says, “…for apart from Me, you can do nothing” (John 15:5). So our confidence is always ultimately in God and His grace.
However, there is a sense in which God does call us to believe in ourselves, in that He equips us for the work He has for us to do and will be with us in doing it.
God has given you abilities, talents, resources, experiences. He has created you in His image with a creative mind to solve problems and complete tasks.
