Read Your Bible

So many Christians neglect this most essential means of grace.

Written by Jacob Crouch | Thursday, March 19, 2026

If you’ve never tried to read the whole Bible, now’s the time. If you’re struggling to make it a habit, don’t give up. Keep pressing on. You’ll never regret having spent time getting to know your God. Trust Christ, and read your Bible!

Hello. It’s me again. Yes, I know I’ve said this before, but I want to give you an encouragement: Read your Bible! Read it a lot. Read it when you want to. Read it when you don’t want to. Read it every day. Read all of it.

Word Like Fire

When God speaks to Jeremiah He says, “Is not my word like fire, declares the LORD, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?” (Jer 23:29). God’s word is living and active (Heb 4:12), it is profitable (2 Tim 3:16), it is a seed (Luke 8:11), and it is how men and women become wise for salvation (2 Tim 3:14). In God’s word we see the glory of God (2 Cor 3), and we learn how to know Him and please Him. God’s word is amazing! We should come to it constantly in order to hear from God.

When we don’t come to God’s word routinely, we are communicating something. We are saying, “You know what God, I think I’m doing ok. I don’t need your input right now.” To neglect God’s word is to act arrogantly and to trust in our own wisdom. Or maybe it’s not arrogance, but it may be laziness. Again, we are communicating something. To act lazily toward God’s word is to communicate that God’s word is so unimportant to you that you couldn’t possibly be bothered to pay attention to it.
