Philadelphia Eagles Add Belhaven Blazer to Roster

Written by Staff | Tuesday, August 9, 2011

For the third time in the past two years, a Belhaven University (a Presbyterian liberal arts institution in Jackson, Mississippi) alum has signed a pro football contract. They added football a few years ago after adding ballet to their list of majorsJ

Blazer football player Cordario Calvin has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. Calvin, who played as a wide receiver for Belhaven in 2009-2010, signed his NFL free agent contract Wednesday, August 3.

Calvin is the third Blazer in the last two years to sign NFL contracts. Tramaine Brock and Jacob Phillips both signed free agent deals following the 2009 season.

Despite an injury during his second season, Calvin still had record setting accomplishments and had a high ranking in league and conference stats.

“I am very proud of what Cordario has accomplished,” says Belhaven Head Coach Joe Thrasher. “We knew he was a special player and I wish we could have had him healthy for us all last season. He had over 800 yards receiving and did not play in every game.

“He has worked hard to get himself in shape mentally and physically. I look forward to watching him and Tramaine Brock, who is with the San Francisco 49ers, go through this pre-season process.”

Belhaven proudly stands among the select Christian colleges and universities that offer a unique general core curriculum encouraging the development of a personal worldview. The university believes a Christian worldview is a key to preparing men and women academically and spiritually to serve Christ Jesus in their careers, in human relationships, and in the world of ideas.
