The Pensacola Theological Institute will be held at McIlwain Memorial Presbyterian Church in Pensacola, Florida July 26-29, 2018.  The conference’s theme is Insuppressible: Glory, Gospel and the Design of Life, which will examine Intelligent Design — what it is, its contributions to science and the theological implications of those contributions.

The conference will feature scientist, Dr. Douglas Axe, author of the best selling book, Undeniable: How Biology Confirms Our Intuition That Life Is Designed, as well as pastor, author and noted public speaker; Dr. Derek Thomas; and professor and pastor, Dr. Gabriel Fluhrer. The Thursday evening session will be free to the public and will feature a Q&A with Drs. Thomas and Fluhrer. The conference planners hope to attract committed materialists as well as those who are curious about the Intelligent Design movement and how it relates to biblical theology.

Dr. Axe is Director of Biologic Institute in Seattle and holds a Ph.D. from Caltech. He has held postdoctoral and research scientist positions at Cambridge University and the Medical Research Council Centre in Cambridge. Dr. Axe’s work and ideas have been featured in many scientific journals, including the Journal of Molecular Biology, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Nature, and in such books as Signature in the Cell and Darwin’s Doubt by Stephen Meyer and Life’s Solution by Simon Conway Morris.

Dr. Thomas is the Senior Minister of First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina. He was previously Chairman of the Theology Department at Reformed Theological Seminary and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wales. He is a well-published author having written or edited over 20 works including two chapters of “God, Adam, and You: Biblical Creation Defended and Applied,” edited by Richard D. Phillips.

Dr. Fluhrer received his Ph.D. from Westminster Theological Seminary and he currently serves with Dr. Thomas on the staff of First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina.  He has also edited three books.
