PCUSA Churches in Indiana and California Withdraw

One church was dismissed to the CRC and one to ECO

Center Grove Presbyterian Church, in Greenwood, Ind., was dismissed from the PCUSA to become part of the Christian Reformed Church of North America. Community Presbyterian Church in Ventura, Calif., was dismissed to become part of ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians.

 

Center Grove Departs PCUSA for CRC

After 30 years as part of the Presbyterian Church (USA), an Indiana congregation has left the denomination.

Center Grove Presbyterian Church, located in Greenwood, Ind., in Johnson County just south of Indianapolis, was dismissed from the PCUSA during the Nov. 6, 2013, meeting of the Presbytery of Whitewater Valley to become part of the Christian Reformed Church of North America (CRC).

The 203-member church, pastored by the Rev. Scott Fouts for about three years, was started in 1983 as a daughter congregation of Southport Presbyterian Church.

Community Presbyterian Church Leaves Santa Barbara Presbytery, PCUSA

A second church from Santa Barbara Presbytery was dismissed from the Presbyterian Church (USA) to join another Reformed body.

Community Presbyterian Church (CPC), located in Ventura, Calif., between Los Angeles to the south and Santa Barbara to the north, was dismissed during the Nov. 12, 2013, meeting of Santa Barbara Presbytery to become part of ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians.

CPC’s departure comes on the heels of the September 2013 dismissal of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Camarillo and was a decision that took very little deliberation by presbyters.
