As Christians, we pray to our Father (Matthew 6:9f). Elsewhere in the Bible we learn that we come to our Father through Jesus Christ, because He makes us acceptable before God and we are heard.
Once I attended a public event at which someone thought it would be good to have a prayer. Instead of praying, a poem was read. Yes, there is poetry in the Bible, and prayers designated as poetry as well. But they are addressed to God, not expressions of sentimental thoughts about flowers or the sky being blue.
Another time I attended a mastermind group and we were told to begin it by thinking about something spiritual for us individually, and to have a prayer to whatever or whomever we wanted.
