Jeremy Lin and Tim Tebow teach about readiness

Written by Gordon Duncan | Friday, February 24, 2012

“Lin’sanity” which is only about 2-3 weeks old, should perhaps teach us this. You may never have a platform as big as Tebow’s or Jeremy Lin’s, but each follower of Jesus Christ should live with a readiness to speak of their faith at all times. Bright lights, playoff games, and game-winning shots are not many people’s calling, but readiness and faithfulness are.

Just a few months ago, Tim Tebow took over the sports world by willing the woeful Denver Broncos from behind in game after game. His tenacity and ability to make last second plays led the Broncos to the playoffs, but it was his outspoken faith in Jesus Christ that caused the most controversy. Players, media, and throngs of fans chimed in with some even wondering if God was blessing the Broncos because of Tebow’s faith.

In the past two weeks, “Lin-sanity” has taken over that media spotlight. Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks is this sports’ seasons Tim Tebow. Heralded from the non-basketball capital of Harvard, Lin languished on the bench of the Golden State Warriors, was cut by the Houston Rockets in the preseason, and ultimately picked up the Knicks. He was a development league project along with a list of other faceless players…until this past week or two.

On February 4, 2012, Jeremy Lin was given the chance to start for the Knicks. Just days prior, he was nearly released, but his coach Mike D’Antoni gave him a chance to play because the Knicks were playing so badly and had no other options.

Gordon Duncan writes for the Raleigh Examiner and is also the pastor of Soverign King PCA Church in Garner, NC, a southside suburb of Raleigh.
