Covenant Presbyterian Church ordained Richard W. Sterling on Sunday, Oct. 17.
Sterling, who has attended Covenant for over 30 years, and has served as a Ruling Elder for the past 28 years, will now serve as pastor.
A graduate of Kings College in Briarcliff Manor, NY (now located in Manhattan), Sterling decided to follow the Lord’s calling in 2006 and pursue further education in the Ministry by attending City Net Ministries in Philadelphia, Pa. graduating in June of this year.
LAMPhilly is the essential training arm of CityNet Ministries. A major concern of CityNet has been to offer training to men and women that would provide a distinctly urban and missional approach to ministry preparation. In the urban context this also needed to be preparation that would be accessible financially, educationally and logistically to those who were already involved in ministry and held full-time jobs.
In 2004 CityNet launched LAMP (Leadership And Ministry Preparation) under the direction of Dr. Mark Sarracino, who now serves as Executive Director.
LAMPhilly operates with a cohort system, in which those who enroll for a given year stay together and learn as a community. Students are assigned a Mentor who meet with the students on a regular basis throughout his/her time with the school.
