Thankfully, Carmel Baptist Church—just two miles down the road—is graciously opening their building to us. We will have our “morning” service at 4:00 pm on Sunday at Carmel Baptist in their sanctuary. There will be no Sunday School, no “evening” service, and no childcare available…We encourage our folks, as they are able, to worship at a church near them on Sunday morning.
Dear Christ Covenant Family,
I want to give you an update on our church facilities and our plans for this Sunday.
While we certainly could have fared much worse in yesterday’s (02/06/2020) storms, the campus sustained a fair amount of mild to moderate damage. Rick Ely and his operations and facilities team have been working very hard to get things cleaned up and get contractors on the job as soon as possible.
The most pressing concern at the moment is the roof damage on several of our buildings. The hardest hit was the worship center. With rain coming all next week, it is imperative that we address the roof problems this weekend. Thankfully, Rick has found a professional crew that is willing to serve us with all the time and all the manpower they can muster. The downside is that they can’t get to us until Sunday. I know we’d rather not have them working on Sunday, but this really is a work of necessity and mercy. If they do not work on the roof, we will have extensive water damage in the worship center—damage that our insurance company might not take care of if they think the roof could have been fixed earlier.
Because there will be a crew on the worship center, and potentially on other buildings, we will not be able to use our campus on Sunday. They will also have large equipment to move around campus, making it potentially unsafe for children to be running around. We will not have any of our regularly scheduled activities at Christ Covenant on Sunday.
Thankfully, Carmel Baptist Church—just two miles down the road—is graciously opening their building to us. We will have our “morning” service at 4:00 pm on Sunday at Carmel Baptist in their sanctuary. There will be no Sunday School, no “evening” service, and no childcare available. There are, however, nice rooms at Carmel where parents can watch the service while tending to wiggly or fussy children.
We encourage our folks, as they are able, to worship at a church near them on Sunday morning.
Please be praying for the safety of all those working to clean up our church and school campus. God has been gracious to keep our people safe and to allow a number of contractors to already start working. Given the nature of the work, there isn’t much that we can do with “sweat equity” at this point, but we will certainly let the church body know if those options are available down the road.
May God use all of this to draw us closer together as a church and to cause people in our city to look to him.
In Christ,
Pastor Kevin
P.S. If you are planning to attend Ruth Hood’s Memorial Service on Saturday, February 8, please note it will be at Carmel Baptist Church and not at Christ Covenant Church. Visitation is from 10am-11am, and the service will begin at 11:00am.
