A Review of the new Logos 5 Software

Use it as a tool, though: do not let it supplant thinking for yourself.

Written by Carl Trueman | Sunday, November 11, 2012

I remember reading that Lloyd-Jones never used a concordance because it inhibited learning scripture properly and I have tried to follow that line much of the time; but I confess that when pushed for time to prepare, concordances are useful and electronic search engines are fantastic.

Girl’s Guide to Understanding Guys and Porn

Biblical and practical guidelines for relationships and a difficult addiction

Written by Scott Croft | Saturday, November 10, 2012

Sadly, use of pornography is extremely widespread, even among Christian men. Do 100 percent of men regularly view pornography? No, but both secular and Christian surveys regularly indicate that the vast majority (over 70 percent) of men age 18-24 view it regularly (at least weekly) – and those are just the guys who are willing... Pro-Life Display on Campus: Inexpressibly Horrific

Westmont College student protests evangelical school's refusal to allow a pro-life display on campus

Written by Leigh Jones | Saturday, November 10, 2012

But for three years in a row, Westmont’s student government association denied Gruber’s request to bring a pro-life display to campus. The display, known as the Genocide Awareness Project and sponsored by the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform (CBR), contains billboard-sized photos of aborted babies. Some are whole, others in pieces. Gruber admits the display is... Continue Reading

The Election: The End Is Not Yet

Are the results of the recent election a sign of the end, of divine judgment, or an act of God’s providence?

Written by William H. Smith | Saturday, November 10, 2012

I do not believe the United States is experiencing the kind of judgment that Israel-Judah as the covenant nation in the Old Testament experienced. But God does judge the nations, and he may now be visiting judgment of this kind on our country. Or, he may not. We could be at the absolute end of... Continue Reading

Aquinas: A Shaky Foundation

The ground upon which the Thomistic structure was built was shaky

Written by K. Scott Oliphint | Saturday, November 10, 2012

The challenge is this: from a Protestant and Reformed perspective, whatever one seeks to adopt and adapt from Thomas and medieval philosophical theology, those tenets and notions must be thoroughly cleansed of their sandy foundation if they are to be placed on theological solid ground. There must be a clear and acute awareness of the... Continue Reading

Goodbye, Christian America; Hello, True Christianity

Christians can stop worrying about the symbols of the decline of Christian America and get back to the mission Jesus gave us

Written by Richard Stearns | Saturday, November 10, 2012

As this cultural shift has occurred, many Christians have reacted in frustration. We have fought to place the Ten Commandments in courtrooms and Christmas crèches outside town halls. We have sued over public prayers and crosses in state parks. One court recently weighed in on whether cheerleaders at a Texas school should be allowed to... Continue Reading

All Cokesbury Stores Closing As UM Publishing House Moves to Online Sales

The United Methodist Publishing House is closing all its Cokesbury stores by April 2013

Written by Sam Hodges | Saturday, November 10, 2012

“Cokesbury has been serving for more than 200 years, and during that time has continuously adapted to the changing landscape affecting congregations and their leaders…. A shift toward all things digital and the convenience of placing orders at any time is the reality of Cokesbury today….”   The United Methodist Publishing House is closing all... Continue Reading

The Resilient Kim

Kimberly Alden Grimsley Smith, 39, went to God on November 8, 2012

Written by William H. Smith | Friday, November 9, 2012

Kimberly Alden Grimsley Smith, 39, went to God on November 8, 2012. Present with her at the time of death were her husband, Calvin, her mother, Jeneane Grimsley, and her in-laws, Death is not beautiful. It is ugly, totally unnatural. But, as Kim drew near to death the minister with her assured her she was... Continue Reading

A Roundup of Election Analyses and Opinions

Assessments of the recent election

Written by Staff | Friday, November 9, 2012

The range of opinions of the recent election run from despair to hope, from self-assessment to corporate changes, from realignment to prayer, from resignation to engagement. Perhaps after more time has passed these and other assessments will change but for now here is what is being said.     Rick Phillips: Five Christian Responses to... Continue Reading

The Om School Movement

Our once “Christian” West is now deeply infiltrated by the Trojan Horse of Eastern spirituality

Written by Peter Jones | Friday, November 9, 2012

Is this the religion of “The Coming Pagan Utopia”? How vigilant the Church must be, in order to avoid complicity in this infiltration! We must “MindUP” with the mind of Christ, as revealed in his Word, in order to speak the Gospel with absolute clarity—for the glory of Jesus and for the saving of souls... Continue Reading
