Young Men: Find a Godly Wife

What she thinks about the Bible, the gospel, and the Christian life really matters.

Written by Jacob Crouch | Friday, March 13, 2026

Young men, find a wife. Be attracted for the right reasons. Find someone who will go to war with you as a soldier of Christ. Find a real help. Find a wife and find a good thing.

I’ve got a bone to pick with young Christian men. Specifically, I want to talk to young Christian men in healthy churches. Many of you want to get married. Many of you have seen the benefit and blessing and high calling of the gospel picture of Christian marriage. Many of you are actively looking for a wife. All of this is good, but here’s the problem I keep seeing: Young men don’t seem to have a good grid for what to look for in a wife. What I mean is that I see young men begin to pursue a young woman and I say, “Tell me about her. How’d she come to know the Lord?” “We haven’t really talked about that yet.” What!? This makes no sense to me. The question I want to ask is, “What attracted you to her in the first place?”

The Godly Wife

Young men, there is no greater earthly relationship than that between a husband and a wife. She is your companion, your confidant, the mother of your children, and the ministry partner that helps you to serve the Lord. She will be the primary teacher of your children while you are providing for the family at work. She is the person who will see your sin, rebuke you, pray for you, challenge you, and point you to Jesus. She will be the person you pray with and with whom you will scheme about how to use your home and family for the glory of God. You two will decide how to spend your money and raise your children. You will sleep in the same bed and spit in the same sink. Lord willing you will grow old and ugly together. In other words, this woman is really important!
