Living out Acts 20:27 means that all our thoughts and actions are constantly to be corrected or revised according to divine, transcultural norms.
Averse which has been at the center of my life for over a half century has been on my mind a lot lately. Several of us have begun strategizing and working together for most of this year to begin a new (yet proven) concept. We are launching Whole Counsel to be a dynamic resource center that publishes, coordinates, and facilitates ministries, studies, conferences, and initiatives to declare the breadth of inspired teaching. Presently being hosted by the Cornwall Alliance, our motto is, admittedly, large seeking to hold out: “The Whole Counsel of God…from the Whole Word of God…to the Whole People of God…for the Whole of life.”
In other words, we believe Acts 20:27 obliges us to promote the fullness of Christian teaching without becoming either sidelined or gospel minimalists.
We believe that this is a moment for the church of Christ to rise up in a courageous witness. Moreover, to the degree that average Christians understand and act on this verse, a continual stream of testimony arises. Below is a short introduction to the biblical concept.
The best thing we can offer to families, churches, individuals, or culture is God’s comprehensive wisdom as referenced in Acts 20:27. Three aspects of that life-verse stand out for present application.
First, Paul did not hesitate. He operated with moral bravery instead of cowardice or shrinking from the task. In some ways, our message may be hindered or helped by our moral courage. Advocating the whole counsel of God attempts, with all due humility, to be bold in mission and work. We understand that all too often the church has become maimed by seeking approval of the world. Consciously avoiding that pitfall propels us forward.
