When wickedness shakes a nation, Christians must be clear-eyed about evil yet confident in God’s justice. We remember that He reigns, that governments are accountable to Him, and that vengeance belongs to the Lord. We engage the public square not with despair or rage but with a steady hope rooted in the cross of Christ.
Every nation experiences moments of crisis, times when wicked deeds capture headlines, unsettle communities, and raise troubling questions. Whether it be corruption in government, acts of terrorism, political assassinations, violence in the streets, or systemic exploitation, such events often leave Christians asking: Where is God’s justice in all this?
The Bible does not leave us without guidance. When wickedness strikes a nation, God’s people are called neither to despair nor to blind rage, but to respond with a vision of justice rooted in His character and His Word.
Justice Belongs to God
First, Christians must remember that ultimate justice belongs to God. “The LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him” (Isa. 30:18). When evil seems to prevail, it can be tempting to believe that God has lost control. Yet Scripture repeatedly affirms that He sits enthroned above the nations (Ps. 22:28). He will not allow wickedness to go unanswered.
This truth steadies us. We need not fear that injustice will have the last word. As Paul reminds us, God has fixed a day when He will judge the world in righteousness through Christ (Acts 17:31).
When evil erupts in the nation, guard your heart from despair. Remind yourself daily that God is not passive; He is the Judge who sees all and will act in His time.
Additionally, God has also given earthly governments the task of maintaining order and restraining evil. Romans 13:4 describes rulers as “God’s servant for your good,” appointed to bear the sword against wrongdoers. When wickedness occurs in a nation, it is right for Christians to call upon civil authorities to exercise justice impartially and swiftly.
