When Doing Good Seems to do No Good

When it feels like the good you do seems to do no good, realize it isn’t true.

Written by Pete Hurst | Sunday, December 28, 2025

And we never know how He might use the faithfulness of “unknowns” like us, to advance His Kingdom. Okay, so you and I think we are nowhere near as significant as Jeremiah, but every time we do the good thing, God is still pleased.

You do the right thing or the good thing and no one appreciates it; in fact, you may be criticized for it.

Maybe it’s what you experience at work or home or with friends or even at church.

When I think of people who have gone unappreciated and are even hated for doing the right and good thing, for saying the right and good thing, of course I think of Jesus Christ ,but also others, like the Old Testament prophets.

Jeremiah knew rejection, and in Jeremiah 20 he mentions two different times when he was down.

One time he accuses God of deceiving him, and the other time he curses the day of his birth.

Hopefully you haven’t gone this far, but if you have, you need to come back to your senses and remember with Jeremiah that things aren’t as bad as they may seem.

Sure, you’re not appreciated, but ultimately, we serve Christ, as he did, and the Lord accepts our doing the right and good thing in work and life.
