What Is Everyone Waiting On?

They could not see Christ in His fullness yet, but they wanted to.

Written by Jacob Crouch | Thursday, December 25, 2025

What are you waiting on? Christ has come. He came, He died, and He rose again. He is everything that was promised, and He is everything that He said He is. Trust Him. Worship Him.

Before Christ came, men and angels leaned in with eager anticipation. Peter tells us that the prophets were searching and inquiring concerning, “what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories… things into which angels long to look” (1 Peter 1:11-12). They could not see Christ in His fullness yet, but they wanted to. Whom did they think was coming? Why did they think He was coming? What is everyone waiting on? Thankfully, we have a record of that.

Angels

What were the angels anticipating about the incarnation of Christ? To Joseph, the angel revealed that the child would be conceived by the Holy Spirit and would “save His people from their sins” (Matt 1:20-21). Gabriel revealed that the Christ would be the Son of God, that He was the eternal heir to the throne of David, and that He would be holy (Luke 1:31-35). And when Christ was born, the angelic hosts proclaimed, “good news of great joy that will be for all the people” (Luke 2:10). He is the Savior, He is Christ, He is the Lord (2:11). They heralded that He would be the cause for glory to God in the highest, and peace among men on the earth (2:14). The angels who longed to look into these things were celebrating that the all-nations Savior had arrived, and what they were anticipating was God the Son, the King, who would save His people from their sins and bring glory and peace.
