What Grace Teaches

Grace is teaching you. Are you listening?

Written by Jacob Crouch | Thursday, June 25, 2026

Have you learned the lessons of grace? Grace does not teach us to live for ourselves, but it teaches us to live for Him.…The more we understand and love salvation by grace alone, the more zealous we will be for good works. Grace teaches us to look less like the world and more like the Savior.

If you are a Christian, then there is one truth you cannot escape: You’ve been saved by grace. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God” (Eph 2:8). This means that your salvation is completely accomplished apart from your works. This is crucial to understand. The minute you try to be saved by your works, then you find that you are outside of grace. And if you outside of grace, then you are not saved. Only by the work of Christ on the cross can you be saved. His perfect life and His sacrificial death are our hope for forgiveness. Our salvation is a gift. And this grace teaches us. What does it teach?

True Godliness

Grace teaches us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions. It teaches us to live self-controlled and upright in the present age (Titus 2:12). Grace is a the teacher of true godliness. How is it that Christians are to be devoted to good works? We insist on the gospel of grace (Titus 3:8)! An understanding of our own incompetence to be saved, followed by a real knowledge of God’s gracious gift of salvation, is the fuel in the tank to real, lasting godliness. Grace teaches us, not to live for the world, but to live for the One who generously gives this grace.
