Viral Opportunity

Let’s make the gospel go viral.

Written by Stan Gale | Wednesday, March 11, 2020

Instead of joining in the mass hysteria, what if believers used the Coronavirus as a viral opportunity to spread the good news of the gospel? The best prevention to the Cornovavirus is not breathing. Not breathing is also its worst outcome. Maybe it’s time to encourage people to explore what God says about eternal life.

Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy
that will be for all the people (Luke 2:10, NIV84).

Fear of the Coronavirus is sweeping the world. It’s been called the “Boomer Doomer,” reflecting that the elderly are most in danger of succumbing to the virus.

All sorts of measures are being taken to curtail its spread. Each day carries news of another event being canceled. Retailers cannot keep hand sanitizer in stock.

After all, there will come a time when all of us are faced with the prospect of not breathing. The Bible tells us what happens next: “Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment” (Heb. 9:27).

Death is inevitable. But today is the day of salvation. The good news of God’s remedy for death is still the headline.

While we will all face death and then judgment, God spells out for us the rest of the story: “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him” (Heb. 9:27–28).

This message of life has been entrusted to Christ’s church. Perhaps the Coronavirus is opportune to make the gospel go viral. To let people know that while sin abounds grace super abounds. To let them know that while fear abounds peace super abounds, peace with God and the peace of God.

Let’s make the gospel go viral. Here is a link to a booklet called God’s Good News that lays out the good news of great joy that is for all the people. Share the link on your social networks. Pray for the viral work of God’s Spirit. Look for opportunities to allay people’s fears by holding out the hope of Jesus Christ.
