Use the Opportunity

Your current opportunity is an opportunity for you to use. Whether it’s work or rest, let’s make time count.

Written by Pete Hurst | Saturday, February 7, 2026

He lived Shawshank Redemption, working toward the goal of getting out, and using what he had in a profitable way while he was in prison. Finally, he stands before Pharaoh and again uses the opportunity to apply for the position of chief comptroller of all the grain in Egypt, to get everyone through the coming famine.

You already know, like I do, that we don’t live in a perfect world.

We often would like for our circumstances to be better, but there’s no use wasting time wishing for what shows no likelihood of change.

So what should we do?

Well, of course, we can pray, but the other thing to do is to make the best use of our situation.

You remember Joseph in Genesis.

He showed immaturity as a younger sibling, carrying on about his dreams to his family, but later in life he was an example for all of us to follow.

His brothers sold him as a slave, and he was owned by Potiphar, but he used the opportunity to do good work and was seen as valuable by Potiphar.
