Top 50 Stories on The Aquila Report for 2020: 11-20

Numbers 11-20 of the top 50 articles for 2020

Written by Staff | Thursday, January 7, 2021

In keeping with the journalistic tradition of looking back at the recent past, we present the top 50 stories of the year that were read on The Aquila Report site based on the number of hits. We will present the 50 stories in groups of 10 to run on five lists on consecutive days. Here are numbers 11-20.

In 2020 The Aquila Report (TAR) posted over 3,000 stories. At the end of each year we feature the top 50 stories that were read.

TAR posts 8 new stories each day, on a variety of subjects – all of which we trust are of interest to our readers. As a web magazine TAR is an aggregator of news and information that we believe will provide articles that will inform the church of current trends and movements within the church and culture.

In keeping with the journalistic tradition of looking back at the recent past, we present the top 50 stories of the year that were read on The Aquila Report site based on the number of hits. We will present the 50 stories in groups of 10 to run on five lists on consecutive days. Here are numbers 11-20:

  1. Evangelical Pastors Pander To Radical Black Lives Matter

Here’s what Black Lives Matter explicitly says about itself on its own website: “We … do the work required to dismantle cisgender privilege. We build a space that … is free from sexism, misogyny, and environments in which men are centered. We dismantle patriarchal practices … We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure … We foster a queer-affirming network … with the intention of freeing ourselves from the tight grip of heteronormative thinking …”

  1. Lowcountry Presbytery Overtures the 48th PCA GA to Amend BCO 17 to Prohibit PCA Ordination for Men Self-Identifying as ‘Gay-Christians’

Lowcountry Presbytery approved an overture at its January 25, 2020 Stated Meeting, requesting the 48th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America amend Book of Church Order 17 by adding a new paragraph to “Amend BCO 17 by Adding a Clause Which Prohibits Ordination for Men Who Self-Identify as ‘Gay Christians,’ ‘Same-sex Attracted Christians,’ and/or ‘Homosexual Christians’.” The overture was submitted to the Presbytery by the Session of Christ Church Presbyterian of Charleston, SC.

  1. Central Georgia Presbytery Requests the PCA General Assembly to Assume Jurisdiction Over the Missouri Presbytery Issue

Central Georgia Presbytery approved an overture at its January 11, 2020 Stated Meeting, placing before the 48th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America a “BCO 34-1 request for General Assembly to Assume Original Jurisdiction in Missouri Presbytery Issue.”

  1. A Homosexual Reads His Bible

This terrible confusion is theological quicksand, and Wes is ready to make our Holy Lord Jesus a model of his own desired type of “friendship”. The PCA must reject this immoral mess, and Hill’s self-serving “Scriptural” reasoning. Dr. Wesley Hill has not imparted soundness of truth. With his reading of Scripture he is out to recruit evangelical support for his kind of homosexuality, so I write to show that the Scriptures he chose for this do not support his kind of gayness at all.

  1. The Theological Problem With Tim Keller’s So-Called Social Justice

To accurately picture God’s graciousness to us in the gospel through our giving, the one thing we must never do is claim that the recipient of the gift deserves it; that we are committing an act of justice to them in our giving. For the sake of the integrity of the gospel, gospel giving must never be thought of as justice. It’s not justice. It’s grace. It’s charity.

  1. Warnings in the PCA

The PCA has always set itself apart as curious and intellectual. But I would remind them that the things of the world hate the things of God and Marxism is inherently a thing of this world. A Christian who thinks he can co-opt Marxist thought for the church is a Christian whose pride will come before his fall. The church needs to be warned.

  1. Tim Keller, John Piper, & Donald Trump

Tim Keller and John Piper have had long, fruitful ministries. No doubt both are under a great deal of pressure to declare decisively on this election. Moreover, Keller is battling pancreatic cancer and deserves our prayers and well wishes. That said, I believe both are egregiously wrong in this instance. Matthew 24:24 tells us the time will come when even the elect will be led astray. Such is the power of the “social justice” lie. Like Satan masquerading as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14), social justice—in this case, the thin end of a socialist wedge—holds out the hope of heaven on earth. But it cannot deliver on such promises.

  1. PCA Minister Jean Jacob Paul: One of the 21st Century’s Newest Martyrs

Pastor Paul moved to Haiti, at the urging of God through the means of recurrent dreams, early in this century and began a ministry to orphaned children and the planting of churches across the nation. Beginning in 2013, Jean established a Reformed Bible college in Haiti, training young pastors and theological students in God’s Word. Jean believed he had a very pressing mission from God – to transform Haiti with the Gospel and see Jesus exalted from Jacmel in the south to Cap Haitien in the north.

  1. PCA’s Defiant Greg Johnson Scheduled to Speak Revoice 2020 as PCA Splits

It appears the activists in the Revoice movement are excited that their movement is helping split one of the conservative denominations in America. PCA Pastor Greg Johnson may even be flaunting it.

  1. Missouri Presbytery Report of Its BCO 31-2 Investigation of TE Greg Johnson

We the Missouri Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America, judge each of these allegations made against TE Greg Johnson to be untrue, namely that some of his actions (i.e., publicly identifying as a same-sex-attracted man on various occasions), views, and teachings on human sexuality are seriously out of accord with our doctrinal standards and do strike at the vitals of religion, render him unfit for the office of elder. We exonerate TE Johnson of these allegations and restore to him his good name, finding no warrant for a trial since we find no strong presumption of guilt….
