‘Third Mill’ Ministries and Birmingham Seminary announce a Global Partnership for Theological Education

Written by Staff | Tuesday, May 1, 2012

Through the BTS/Third Mill site, any student outside of the United States will be able to take courses at no cost and earn a Certificate in Christian Ministry from BTS. While the Certificate in Christian Ministry initially will be offered in English, BTS and Third Mill anticipate adding Spanish soon…

Today, more than three million Christian leaders have little or no theological training. In many areas, theological materials are scarce or simply not available. It’s a challenging situation: Without grounded biblical education pastors and churches are left susceptible to hollow and deceptive philosophies.

Founded in 1997 by Dr. Richard L. Pratt, Jr., Third Millennium is committed to publishing and distributing excellent multi-media biblical education to Christian leaders throughout the world at no cost. Third Mill curriculum is available in English, Russian, Spanish, Mandarin, and Arabic –– languages that cover 42 percent of the world’s population.

In addition, Third Mill partners with other ministries who translate the materials into other languages including: Farsi (Iran), Turkish, French, Mongolian, several African Arabic dialects, Amharic (Ethiopia), Hindi, and several other languages of India. With partners in over 127 countries, Third Mill is saturating the globe with our multimedia, masters-level education for Christian leaders.

Third Millennium Ministries is pleased to announce our new partnership with Birmingham Theological Seminary (BTS) in Birmingham, Alabama. BTS is theologically Reformed and evangelistic in focus. The seminary strives for academic excellence, through a program of instruction, which is practical and useful for effective ministry. BTS has relationships with several seminaries overseas and is intentionally engaged in global missions. BTS maintains close affiliation with the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA). In addition to being based at Briarwood Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Birmingham, many graduates are ordained and minister in the PCA.

Third Mill has worked with BTS to develop an online distance education platform fully integrating Third Mill’s complete curriculum in English. This summer, Third Mill and BTS will launch the co-branded website (Editor: check for it in late-May) which will include our video courses, required readings, forums, evaluations, quizzes, and tests. The site is free and available to anyone interested in theological enrichment; however, credits can only be earned by students residing outside of the United States.

Through the BTS/Third Mill site, any student outside of the United States will be able to take courses at no cost and earn a Certificate in Christian Ministry from BTS. While the Certificate in Christian Ministry initially will be offered in English, BTS and Third Mill anticipate adding Spanish soon, and are contemplating adding Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, and Russian in the future. This unique venture is intended to equip pastors and Church leaders globally at no charge, using a medium increasingly available even in economically depressed areas.

BTS is known for its commitment to affordability and accessibility. As such, the partnership between Third Mill and BTS is a natural one, as both ministries share the vision of making exceptional biblical education widely available, especially to those who otherwise would not have access. Throughout its history, BTS has offered low cost, high quality seminary-level learning opportunities and degrees to pastors and lay leaders from many different denominational, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. This venture furthers the collective missions of both BTS and Third Millennium by advancing the kingdom through sound biblical teaching.
