Have you ever marveled that a ball of gas millions of miles away can give both light and heat to an entire planet? Its perfect placement preserves life on earth rather than incinerating or freezing us. This is to remind you that Jesus is upholding the universe by the word of His power (Heb 1:3).
What can outshine the midday blast of the Middle Eastern sun? What will illuminate all of eternity? The answer to both of these questions is the glorified Son of God. At Paul’s conversion, he saw “a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, that shone around [him]” (Acts 26:13). The light with which we will see the glory of heaven will be so complete that heaven will have, “no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb” (Rev 21:23). This reminds us of an amazing truth: The sun is just a shadow.
Have you ever stared at the sun? I hope not! Everyone knows that the brightness of the sun will harm your eyes if you look directly at it. The sun and the light it gives are a shadow of the glory of Him who dwells in unapproachable light (1 Tim 6:16).
Have you ever tried walking at night when there were no lights? Each step was a mystery and the risk of stumbling was pretty high.
