Editor’s Note: One of our favorite bloggers/op-ed writers has written a new book called “Black and Tired: Government cannot cure moral ailments.” Here is a press release from his institution announcing the publication

Dr. Anthony Bradley, associate professor of theology and ethics, is sick and tired. Why? Consider these melancholy statistics:

· About 43 percent of black men and 42 percent of black women in America had never been married, in contrast to 27 percent for white males and 21 for white females.

· Between 1970 and 2001, the overall marriage rate declined by 17 percent in America; but for blacks, it fell by 34 percent.

· In New York City, blacks have an abortion rate of nearly 60% compared to 20% for whites.

· Only 47 percent of black males graduate from high school on time compared to 78 percent for white males.

We often look to government to solve these problems. But, Bradley says, “It is government that keeps generations of those suffering addicted to social services. More money, more government is not working. Throwing cash at broken systems doesn’t fix the system. Moral problems require moral solutions.”

Black and Tired suggests alternative solutions that live at the intersection of economics and moral theology. The book tackles issues of race, politics, contemporary culture, globalization, and education with a style and grace that capture both the mind and the heart.

For readers who enjoy the writings of intellectuals like Thomas Sowell, this book will be a breath of fresh air. It is unique because it explicitly applies Christian moral teachings to today’s global concerns. Prior to joining The King’s College, Bradley was assistant professor of apologetics and systematic theology at Covenant Theological Seminary, where he joined the faculty in fall 2005.

Dr. Bradley also serves as a research fellow for the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty in Grand Rapids, Mich. His first book, Liberating Black Theology: The Bible and the Black Experience in America, was released by Crossway in 2010. His writings on religious and cultural issues have been published in a variety of journals, including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Detroit News, and World Magazine. He also regularly shares his insights on radio and television, having done scores of interviews on Fox News, National Public Radio, CNN, and other local and national media outlets.

Dr. Bradley holds a bachelor of science from Clemson University, a Master of Divinity from Covenant Seminary, and a Ph.D. from Westminster Theological Seminary.
