If we delight in the Lord, then our hearts are going to want the things we ought to want. Practically, I might think, “I hope God gives me a successful trip this weekend, but I’m good with whatever pleases Him.”
It’s okay for us to want things.
Because we do doesn’t necessarily mean we are discontent.
We rightly pray all the time for good things that we want for ourselves and others.
The Bible is full of such prayers and teaching us to desire good things.
Sometimes we hear the advice to “follow your heart.”
This is okay only under certain conditions.
We don’t have permission to disregard what God has told us not to do, or told us to do.
Lots of times, we can act on our feelings or even desires, that can be selfish and wrong.
Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
This is a safeguard for us.
