Scripture is a surefire weapon as we approach the day of battle—every single day. We must think on the Word of God by the power of the Spirit of God. It’s vital for us to meditate on God’s Word so that we fight off things that go against his Word.
Scene 1:
I roll out of bed around 5:45 a.m. I take a shower, get dressed, make coffee, let the dog out, and sit down on the couch. It is then that I instinctively get on my phone to check the latest news, scroll through Facebook and its memories, among other things. I should probably be reading my Bible or at least a devotional, I think. But my brain isn’t awake yet. My body is telling me not yet. So I tell myself to read later.
Later comes and goes. I never get to reading. Perhaps I read a verse here and there from various Facebook posts I read throughout the day, but I don’t have a formal Bible-reading session. Because of this, my heart is rattled by temptation and my mind wanders. I am easily agitated and assume the worst in people. Someone cuts me off on the road and I honk my horn a little longer than I should.
I go home and don’t honor my wife as I should. I don’t look for ways to serve her but only focus on myself. The kids want my attention but all I want to do is sit down. I feel sluggish, lazy, and sinful. I know that I’ve messed up.
The day of battle is here (again) and I am woefully unprepared—and it’s all my fault.
Scene 2:
I roll out of bed at 5:45 a.m. and get in the shower. As I wake up, I remember to pray, thank the Lord that he woke me up for another day. I pray that he gives everyone in my family a good day, and that I honor him in all I do today. I get dressed, make coffee, let the dog out, and go sit down on the couch. I’m still waking up, but I know my soul and heart needs God’s Word. I only read about four or five verses, but it’s verses that I will try to meditate on throughout the day.
