Statement from the PCA Ad Interim Study Committee on Human Sexuality

The study committee will make the report available to the PCA at the originally scheduled time.

Written by Bryan Chapell | Wednesday, April 15, 2020

The Ad Interim Committee’s study of the assigned issues is complete, but there may be a delay of the final editing and publication for a short time,. The report will not be officially presented to the General Assembly until its next scheduled meeting in 2021. Nevertheless, the committee will make the report available to the church at this originally scheduled time because we were commissioned by the Assembly to engage in this study due to pressing needs in our church and society.

The Ad Interim Committee Report on Human Sexuality that has been prepared for the 48th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America (originally scheduled for June 2020) will be available on the Administrative Committee website as close to the original May 17 deadline as possible.

As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, we understand that the Stated Clerk’s office is under intense pressures to handle many matters beyond its control that may delay the final editing and publication for a short time, but the Ad Interim Committee’s study of the assigned issues is complete. The report will not be officially presented to the General Assembly until its next scheduled meeting in 2021. Nevertheless, the committee will make the report available to the church at this originally scheduled time because we were commissioned by the Assembly to engage in this study due to pressing needs in our church and society. Our prayer is that the Scriptural solidarity and relational unity we experienced as a committee will be reflected in what we have written, and may also prove helpful for the unity, witness, and mission of our church and her people.

Members of the committee were chosen to represent varying perspectives in our church, and the committee has also sought outside counsel from leaders representative of a wide range of organizations, life experiences, and presbyteries. We have been blessed by thoughtful and candid conversations that have found resolution and unified conviction through examining Scripture for answers that address our cultural concerns with Confessional integrity and mutual respect.

Statement Drafted by Committee Chairman Bryan Chapell (Teaching Elder), as commissioned by the Ad Interim Committee.
