Spring 2009 Newsletter for the Bears Serving in London, England

Written by Chris Bear | Saturday, August 29, 2009

Canada Water News
Canada Water has been blessed through the work of the Spirit; no doubt your prayers have been needed and hitting the mark. In the past few months we have had other births, many engagements, and in addition to Aidan’s Baptism (see Baby News below), we also baptized a 50-year-old British man named Derek in the spring. His story about coming to faith in Christ over this last year is amazing and humbling.

To give you an idea of what the spiritual climate is, after his conversion, his family has mostly stopped communicating with him and his wife due to the extreme atheism that is prevalent in the U.K. Please pray for our upcoming ministry year, which starts this September!

Surrey Docks News
In the last newsletter we mentioned that we are starting a new church plant even though Canada Water is just a couple of years old! We have been meeting in the local Hilton Hotel for the past 10 weeks in preparation for September when things kick back into gear! (Londoners flee the city in droves during the month of August.) So we are using this time to get everything in order for this upcoming year. The need in London for churches is great. Please pray for this brand new church plant and for the brothers and sisters in Christ who are helping get it started.

New Interns…
We are excited to let you know that a new intern is now raising support to come work with us for 11 months, Megan Hodge. She is now just starting out on her support-raising journey. Please lift her up in prayer, as she has to raise around $50,000. We are thrilled for her to become a part of the team here in London. In related news, our other intern, Jacqueline, was hired to work with the student ministry at the church where Zhenya and Chris met! We are looking for more interns, if you or someone you know is interested please let us know.

Baby News: Aidan Lee Bear
We sent word out about his birth but this is the first newsletter since then. It is hard to believe how fast just a few months go. Zhenya is feeling great as well! The fourth member of the Bear family seems to be fitting into London quite well. Thank you for all the notes, prayers, and gifts as he was born.

Did we say something about a flood…
Our flat had a flood that destroyed everything under the floorboards! Nothing was ruined but we had to be out of our flat for four weeks while all of the floors were getting replaced, which is why we are a few weeks late getting this back to all of you.
