Special Events at Belhaven University

Written by Staff | Thursday, February 11, 2010

Student Missions Conference, Black History Month and Spring Discovery Days will be featured in upcoming weeks at Belhaven.

Annual Student Mission Conference features Alumnus Dan Porch
Belhaven University’s annual Student Mission Conference will be held from February 16-18, 2010 and features alumnus Dan Porch as the keynote speaker. Porch is a 1983 graduate of Belhaven University and former Director of West African Missions (Senegal, Guinea, Liberia, and the Ivory Coast) for SIM (Serving in Mission). He will speak at 11:00 am on both Tuesday and Thursday at the Center for the Arts, and on Wednesday he will speak at 8:30 pm in the Student Center Commons.

A total of six mission organizations will be represented at this year’s Student Mission Conference, and the following organizations and their representatives will be available in the Student Center and different classrooms throughout the week: Perkins Foundation, Operation Mobilization, Mission to the World, Wycliffe, YWAM, and SIM.

10 Days that Changed our Nation: Black History Month at Belhaven
Belhaven University has a number of special events planned to Celebrate Black History Month this February. There will be an emphasis on the “10 Days that Changed our Nation,” focusing on key events, turning points, and important people in black history.

This “10 Days” theme will be featured throughout the campus so students can better understand how past events have impacted lives today.

In addition to the “10 Days” emphasis, Campus Life has organized special events to commemorate Black History Month, the Gillespie Commons has exchanged its playlist of classical music for jazz and blues for all of February, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be featured on the campus-wide cable channel all month. Several key events for the month include a special guest artist in chapel, outreach day at the John Perkins Center, prayer gathering on mercy and reconciliation, worship gathering, and a Racial Reconciliation Summit, sponsored by Mission Mississippi at Mississippi College. Belhaven students who would like more information about these events may contact Kourtney Clark, Campus Life Coordinator.

Discover Days Announced for Spring 2010
Belhaven University announces its spring Discover Day dates for prospective students to visit campus: February 12, March 5, and March 26, from 8:00 am-3:00 pm. Geared for high school seniors and their families, Belhaven’s Discover Days are a great way to get a feel for the campus along with other prospective students from across the U.S.

Students will have the opportunity to meet a professor in their desired major, take a tour of campus, and eat lunch in the dining commons. It’s also a great way to get to know your personal Belhaven Admission Counselor and discuss how to apply for admission.

Financial aid counselors will also be available to help you understand how financial aid works for you. Visit the Belhaven Undergraduate Admission website for more information, or sign up for the Discover Day right now!
