Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) has announced that the inauguration of Dr. John “Scott” Redd, Jr., as president of its Washington D.C. campus, will be held on April 20, 2013. The ceremony will be held at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 5500 River Road, Bethesda, Md., at 6:00 p.m. A reception will follow the ceremony.

“Dr. Scott Redd is exactly the right man for such a time as this as our first president of RTS/Washington,” said Chancellor Michael Milton. “Scott brings that rare collection of sacred gifts to bear as a seminary president: pastoral instincts, leadership experience, impeccable scholarship, cultural insights, and a heart that is broken for the lost and longing to see the truth of God’s Word unleashed to free human beings. He is God’s man for this great city and this critical time.”

Redd began his duties as president and assistant professor of Old Testament at the Washington campus in June 1, 2012. He also sits on the board of trustees of the Washington Theological Consortium and the International Training Institute. Prior to arriving in Washington, Redd served as an assistant professor of Old Testament and dean of students at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando.

Redd was raised around the Washington area, attended W.T. Woodson High School and later The College of William and Mary.

After working for three years at Burson-Marsteller in Washington, Redd pursued a Master of Divinity at RTS/Orlando. He then completed a doctoral dissertation in the Department of Semitic Language and Egyptian Languages and Literatures at the Catholic University of America entitled “Constituent Postponement in Biblical Hebrew Verse.” During his doctoral studies, he taught at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, and ministered at Christ the King Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, N.C. In addition to RTS/Orlando, he has taught at Catholic University of America and the Augustine Theological Institute in Malta.

He and his wife Jennifer have four daughters.

Dr. Robert M. Norris, senior pastor of Fourth Presbyterian Church, will present the message at the inauguration. Dr. Milton, will present the charge to the president, and Dr. Howard, associate professor of systematic theology and academic dean at RTS/Washington D.C., will present the charge to the campus.
