Reformed Theological Seminary announces its first Presidential Appointment at their Washington, DC Campus

Written by Don K. Clements | Wednesday, September 21, 2011

The executive committee of the RTS Board of Trustees has received and approved the call Professor Scott Redd, Jr., as the first president of Reformed Theological Seminary, in Washington, D.C.

Scott will continue to teach through this academic year in his current position at the RTS Orlando campus. During this time Scott plans also to complete his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Semitic and Egyptian Languages and Literatures from Catholic University in Washington D.C.

Scott comes to this position with a background that includes business, public relations, pastoral ministry, and most recently leadership experience at the RTS Orlando campus.

Scott met his wife Jennifer at the College of William & Mary during their undergraduate studies. He then moved to Orlando to attend RTS, where he launched and supervised the Arab Language Project for Third Millennium Ministries while earning his MDiv degree.

Next for Scott was completing coursework for his doctoral coursework in Semitic Languages and Literatures at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. During that time, he was a regular teacher and writer for the Adult Education and Youth ministries of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, MD. Also during that time, Scott’s interest in the global Christian movement led him to get involved in training Arabic-speaking church leaders at the Augustine Theological Institute in Malta (under the oversight of the Arab World Evangelical Minister’s Association).

The Redd family then moved to Raleigh, NC, where Scott served as the Director of Community Life at Christ the King (PCA) Church. He was then offered a faculty position at RTS Orlando and became Assistant Professor of Old Testament and Dean of Students at Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando.

Scott was raised as a ‘Navy Brat’, his dad rising to the rank of Vice Admiral in the U.S. Navy. Admiral Redd’s career included many operational and intelligence tours, including being the Commander of the Navy’s Fifth Fleet, based in Bahrain. After retirement, Admiral Redd became the first Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (think Jack Bauer!). In addition to his service to the country, Admiral Redd was an active leader in Officer Christian Fellowship, a para-church organization that unites evangelical Christians in the armed services.

Current RTS Chancellor Ric Cannada said of Redd, “I am thrilled about the appointment of Scott Redd, Jr. as the new president for RTS/Washington D.C. Scott caught the attention of many of us as a student and later as a faculty and staff member at RTS/Orlando. He will bring enthusiasm and vigor as well as leadership and vision to this strategic campus in the capital of our country. Scott is just the right man ‘for such a time as this’.”

Michael Milton, RTS Charlotte President and chancellor-elect said, “I am so thankful for the appointment of Professor Scott Redd to become president of RTS/Washington D.C. His background in business, pastoral ministry, campus leadership, and his passion to preach and cast a biblical vision is a tremendous blessing to RTS as a whole and to our nation’s capital in particular.”

The RTS Board announcement concluded: “We are confident that Scott’s passion for the gospel, his commitment to a long-term ministry in his home city of Washington, D.C., and his dedication to the vision and mission of RTS in D.C. will work with his excellent experience, to bring us the president that we need to lead this campus forward into the future.”
