Redeemer PCA Jackson construction project underway

Written by Anthony Warren, Jackson Sun | Friday, May 27, 2011

(Editor’s Note: Redeemer ‘s founding is the result of a planned division of the former Trinity PCA congregation under the leadership of Teaching Elder Mike Ross. The majority moved to a new property in Jackson and TE Ken Pierce now serves as pastor. TE Mike Campbell was the new pastor at Redeemer and remains in that position today.)

REDEEMER Church PCA started with 40 families and a desire to meet the spiritual needs of the diverse Broadmeadow community.

Today, with a membership of more than 600 and a new construction project under way, signs show that the church’s efforts are paying off.

Work recently began on a $3.4 million project designed to expand the facility on Northside Drive. Construction will take about eight months to complete, and while it’s going on, members will be meeting for Sunday morning services in the fellowship hall.

Al Arnold, an elder and co-chair of Redeemer’s building committee, said the small sacrifice of having to move to the fellowship hall will be well worth it.

“The primary logistics of the project are to enlarge our sanctuary. Right now, it has the capacity to seat 530 comfortably. We will expand that to 651,” he said.

The church has a membership of 612, with 500 that attend services on a regular basis.

According to Redeemer’s Web site, two-story additions will be constructed on each side of the existing sanctuary. They will include wrap-around balconies for additional seating. The choir loft will be expanded as well, for the storage of instruments.

The project also includes the building of a two-story addition connecting the nursery/youth wing with the education wing.
