Providence Christian College in Pasadena Receives Accreditation

Western Association of Schools and Colleges grants Providence Accreditation

Written by Staff | Wednesday, March 13, 2013

“Although Providence has always pursued and maintained the highest standards of academic excellence in the classroom, receiving accreditation underscores an important milestone for Providence, its constituents, as well as for current and future students. It is a testament to the overall financial sustainability of the college. Additionally, accreditation will provide a more favorable opportunity for students to pursue post graduate education.  Our accreditation from WASC also means that Providence is the only WASC accredited Reformed undergraduate  institution of higher education on the West Coast.”

Providence Christian College was recently informed by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) that it has been granted its Initial Accreditation.

In its March 11, 2013 letter to Providence regarding its accreditation, WASC stated:

Providence Christian College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior College and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, 985 Atlantic Avenue, #100, Alameda, CA 94501, (510) 748-9001.

In a special chapel on the Pasadena, California campus to hear the announcement about receiving accreditation, Providence students, faculty, staff and board member joined together to celebrate this major achievement.

Dr. Dominic Aquila, President of Providence stated, “Although Providence has always pursued and maintained the highest standards of academic excellence in the classroom, receiving accreditation underscores an important milestone for Providence, its constituents, as well as for current and future students.

Providence Christian College was founded in 2003 as a four year liberal arts college in the Reformed tradition with the mission to equip students to be firmly engaged in their church, their community and the world for the glory of God and for service to humanity.  In 2004, the college began the accreditation process with WASC, considered the gold standard for regional accreditation.  It gained Eligibility status in 2005 as it began the first classes on its Ontario, Calif., campus.  In 2009, Providence received Candidacy status, followed by a Review in 2010, and an onsite Educational Effectiveness visit in 2012. WASC granted Providence Christian College its Initial Accreditation on March 11, 2013.

Providence moved from Ontario to its present campus in Pasadena in 2010, on the site of the William Carey International University.

Providence Christian College offers a four year liberal arts degree with ten separate concentrations.
