Heated debates and friction within the PCA might be mollified if elders and church members better understood—and practiced—“practical Presbyterianism.” That’s the premise behind the recommended fourth theme of Practical Presbyterianism to the 2010 PCA Strategic Plan.
…According to the proposal, the goal is to “foster a cordial and practical commitment to the formal values of the PCA.” Coffin says these are reflected in the doctrinal and governmental standards of the denomination…
To cultivate a more amiable and practical commitment to the PCA’s formal values, the new theme calls for the following:
Seminars/Training
Offer a seminar each year at General Assembly…
Cooperative Funding
Ensure that all PCA-sponsored church plants include denominational funding as a fundamental element of the church budget.
Curriculum
Produce a curriculum on doctrinal standards, their history, biblical foundations, and systematic church teaching…so that every PCA member has a basic grasp of the theory and practice of the PCA’s Constitution.
Proof texts for the Book of Church Order (BCO)
Directory of Worship
…adopt The Directory for the Worship of God as constitutional.
Revise Rules of Discipline
Undertake a thorough revision of The Rules of Discipline…
Translate the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Catechisms, and the Book of Church Order
Sponsor the production of an accurate and elegant translation…
