Planned Parenthood Breaking State Law?

Written by Courtny Gerrish | Tuesday, December 29, 2009

Did Planned Parenthood lie to patients? A national group says hidden cam video is proof a Wisconsin clinic isn’t telling the truth. Now state lawmakers want to know what’s going on. A group out of California says it has proof a Planned Parenthood clinic in Wisconsin is breaking the law and “selling abortions to women.”

Undercover video shows a counselor answering a patient’s questions at a Planned Parenthood in Appleton. A counselor on the tape says, “A fetus is what’s in the uterus right now. That is not a baby. A baby is what’s born at 40 weeks.”

The video was shot by “Live Action” a nonprofit group out of California and is now posted on YouTube. “Live Action” claims the footage exposes manipulative counseling. At one point a doctor tells the patient an abortion is safer than giving birth.

“Much safer than having a baby. You know women die having babies,” the doctor said. We talked to the president of “Live Action” by phone. Lila Rose told us, “Women who have questions about abortion, about their unborn child, about the procedure are being lied to. There’s clear medical misinformation being given to them.”

Planned Parenthood refused our request for an on camera interview and would only release this statement, calling the claims “false and inflammatory.”

“…Planned Parenthood’s standard is to provide honest, medically accurate information. That is what the physician in this case did.”

But now Republican state Senator Glenn Grothman is pushing for an investigation. “I think the legislature should certainly look at this to see what we can do to make sure Planned Parenthood doesn’t mislead young girls like this in the future.”

Wisconsin’s informed consent law requires women receive medically accurate information before undergoing an abortion. Senator Grothman has asked the county D.A. to look into the allegations.
