The following news was released this morning by the MNA Church Planting Network and passed to The Aquila Report by several sources:
It is with a heavy heart that we report that a little after 9:00 p.m. est., January 25th, David Nicholas went home to be with the Lord. It was his 60th birthday, in the Lord.
He leaves behind his wife and lifelong partner in the Lord’s work, Eleanor Nicholas and all those who knew him as their spiritual father.
David will be missed terribly here, but his legacy of preaching the Bad News and Good News Gospel will live on in the countless lives that have been touched by his faithful sharing of his Christian faith. He is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Nicolas was born in Abingdon, Pennsylvania on October 7, 1931. He received his undergraduate education at The U (University of Miami, Florida). He attended Dallas Theological seminary from 59-62 and received an MDiv from Columbia Seminary in 1963. In 1977 he completed a DMin at Westminster Seminary.
He was ordained to the gospel ministry in October of 1963 by Southern Mississippi Presbytery of the PCUS and served a yoked pastoral charge in four churches in south Mississippi until 1965. In 1964 he married the former Eleanor ‘Nori’ Foster of Centerville, MS.
Following what became his lifetime love of church planting, he returned to South Florida as an evangelist for Everglades Presbytery of the PCUS in 1965 and in 1969 became organizing pastor of the Spanish River Presbyterian Church in Boca Raton where he served as lead pastor until 2008. Spanish River joined the PCA shortly after formation of the new denomination. After retiring from the pastorate, he moved to the position of President and CEO of Knox Theological Seminary.
We will update this story as information about funeral plans is made known.
