It is with that conviction and comfort–and with great joy, praise and thanksgiving to the Lord Almighty–that we announce our Committee’s unanimous and enthusiastic recommendation that the congregation call Dr. George W. Robertson as the next senior pastor of Second Presbyterian Church.
You elected your Senior Pastor Search Committee 19 months ago. Our prayer—as yours—has been that the Lord would lead our church during this season, that He would lead us to our next senior pastor, and that He would do so in His perfect timing. We have felt His clear and gentle leading in ways far beyond that for which we ever knew to ask.
A congregational meeting for this purpose will be held on Sunday, July 23 during a combined Sunday School hour.
Our now good friend, George, currently serves as Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Augusta, Georgia, and previously served in the same capacity at Covenant Presbyterian Church in St. Louis. He earned his baccalaureate degree from Covenant College, his Master of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees from Covenant Theological Seminary, and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Historical and Theological Studies from Westminster Theological Seminary. George and his dear wife, Jackie, have four delightful children, Taylor, Anna, Abbey, and Caroline.
George’s qualifications and distinctions would fill a much longer letter than this. Most importantly, George is a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, a bold minister of the Gospel, an admirable leader, and a man of reflection and humility. George has a heart for pastoral ministry, and his experiences, gifts, interests and demeanor combine to make him uniquely well–suited to lead Second at this particular moment in our history. Our search process, though detailed and deliberate, led to George with remarkable clarity.
We thank you, the congregation, for the confidence you have placed in our team, the patience you have exhibited, and especially for your prayers for this effort. We look forward to sharing additional information and to making our official recommendation at the upcoming congregational meeting.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Your Senior Pastor Search Committee
