PCA Disaster Relief Ministry update on Washington State Wildfires

Written by Arklie Hooten, Coordinator | Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Wildfires in central Washington State have destroyed at least 20 homes on the Yakama Reservation where PCA Church Planter Chris Granberry is planting Hope Fellowship Mission PCA and directs Sacred Road Ministry, a ministry of Pacific Northwest Presbytery.

The fires have driven great numbers of people from their homes which are now without power and water. Many homes unaffected by the fire have suffered roof and structural damage from the up to 80 mph winds, which continue to disrupt firefighting efforts. The threat of more fire is looming.

Pastor Granberry and the leadership team are currently assessing damage among their members and the White Swan community. Some damage to PCA church buildings has been reported. Mission to North America Disaster Response is working with PCA leaders in the area to formulate a long-term recovery plan, which will be accomplished in partnership with the Yakama Nation Emergency Management Agency.

For now, you can:

· PRAY. Pray earnestly that God will provide Hope Fellowship and Sacred Road staff and members with strengthened faith and opportunities to serve fellow believers; pray also for God’s people as they serve others in this community, demonstrating the Gospel through acts of mercy. “Pray……that our service in Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints there….” Romans 15:31

· GIVE. Prayerfully consider an immediate and strong financial contribution through the MNA website. Gifts will be used to meet the urgent needs of affected families connected to the PCA ministries working on the reservation and to provide resources to enable Hope Fellowship to reach out with Christ’s love to a community ranked as one of the poorest in the country. 100% of your gift will go toward relief operations and on going mercy ministry. · GO. We anticipate needing short and longer term mission teams to help with home reconstruction, restoration, and other assistance delivered through Sacred Road Ministries. Most every building on the reservation has roof damage. If you have experience as a site manager leading roofing teams and can serve longer term we are very interested in talking with you. Register your team for future involvement Click here.
