The Search Committee for the Coordinator for the PCA Christian Education and Publications Committee (CE&P) was announced today by the CE&P chairman, TE Scott Barber of Florence, Ala. At its fall meeting on September 8, 2011, CE&P received Dr. Charles Dunahoo announcement that he would not seek another term as head ofCE&P, which Dunahoo has served as Coordinator since 1977.
TE Barber was authorized by CE&P to appoint the Coordinator Search Committee consisting of five active members of the Permanent Committee on CE&P who would be on the Permanent Committee through General Assembly 2013. Barber stated, “The search committee will be composed of three teaching elders and two ruling elders so we have good balance among these elders. We also have good geographical diversity as these men currently serve out west (Arizona), the Midwest (Illinois), the northeast (New Jersey) and the South (Virginia and Mississippi).”
Barber announced the names along with some information about each man.
TE Will Hesterberg, Senior Pastor at Concord Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, Illinois – Will has served many years on the CE&P permanent committee and also served on the Leadership Transition Committee that we have had in place for the last several years preparing for this process. His experience on CE&P and the Leadership Transition Committee specifically will serve the Search Committee well. Will presented to report of the Leadership Transition Committee to the Permanent Committee; he will serve as the convener for the Search Committee.
RE Bill Stanway, ruling elder at First Presbyterian Church, Hattiesburg, Mississippi – Bill knows CE&P well from his terms serving on the permanent committee. He has also faithfully served as clerk for many of our meetings at CE&P so he has extensive knowledge of the things we have done in the past. As an accountant, he also brings good business experience and a head for numbers to the search committee.
TE Winston Maddox, Executive Pastor, Catalina Foothills Church, Tucson, Arizona – Winston has extensive business experience from his years in real estate as well as his owning and operating a Christian bookstore in the Tucson area.
RE Lightsey Wallace, Potomac Presbytery – Lightsey has faithfully served on the CE&P permanent committee for many years and knows well what CE&P has done in the past and what CE&P is capable of doing in the future. He is also a student of the history of our Confession, who articulates well how to apply it pastorally.
TE George Fuller, New Jersey Presbytery – Dr. Fuller is a former president of Westminster Seminary and his experience in the academic community brings something unique to this Search Committee. Dr. Fuller also serves as the Director of CE&P’s Seniors Program so he has knowledge of how the CE&P currently works and will be a valuable member of the search committee.
Barber concluded his announcement: “Please pray for these men as they serve God’s kingdom in the process of selecting the next coordinator for CE&P.”
The Search Committee’s recommendation of a candidate for the position of Coordinator must be approved by the full CE&P Committee, who must in turn be approved by the PCA General Assembly.
