Ocala PCA member wins $25,000 on ‘Millionaire’

Written by Staff | Friday, December 11, 2009

Tricia Pimental, a member of Grace Presbyterian church in Ocala, Fla., won $25,000 by figuring out the official fruit of India and the Philippines on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”

In a nail-biting face-off with Regis Philbin, the episode, which was taped in November and aired December 4, Pimental watched the show in her Ocala home with family members who did not know the results.

The family, and certainly many locals, were on the edge of their seats when host Philbin asked Pimental to name the official fruit of India and the Philippines. Pimental had advanced through several levels at that point, and this question was critical. If she got it right, she would walk away with – at the very least – $25,000.

The clock ticked down, as Pimental wavered between pineapple and mango. The dramatic music rose. Regis stared. Nerves engulfed Pimental like a chilled, wet blanket. With seven seconds on the clock, Pimental buckled and said, “I’m walking away.” Regis straightened and started to speak when, with the clock now down to five seconds, Pimental blurted “Mango! Final answer.”
