God is a goal setting and plan making God. We are made in His image and we can do the same. That doesn’t mean what we come up with will be perfect like His, or that our plans will happen; but often it will be part of the means to discover more about where we are going.
When I say it’s okay to not know where you are going, I’m not talking about after you die. Right now, we need to know we are going to Heaven to be with Jesus Christ forever and ever.
But I’m using “not knowing where you’re going” as to this life, and it comes from when God called Abraham. “By faith, Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8).
A college student has no idea about what her major ought to be. A young man feels stuck in a dead-end job with no future. A mom at home with three kids and yearning to use her entrepreneurial skills. A man enters retirement years and wonders what’s best next, what’s God’s will now? And then there are many of the rest of us who sometimes wake up in the morning and wonder where life is taking us.
