Equity is the new term that will pave the way for the transfer of both wealth and power from the oppressor to the oppressed. It is Classical (or Neo) Marxism in action. It now controls the major institutions in the United States including civil government, academia, the news media, the corporate boardroom, and even the military. Sadly, it is making its way into many conservative church pulpits and ministries.
When Bill Clinton ran for president in 1992, his one-line political mantra was, “It’s all about the economy, stupid!” Well, times and circumstances have changed and now “It’s all about equity not equality – stupid!”
Critical Race Theory (CRT) is spreading through our culture like a herd of cattle stampeding through a western town. America as we knew it just a decade ago is dead. The influence of those who promote this new gospel can be seen everywhere from television commercials to the censorship of books. It has even made inroads into many pulpits of conservative churches that are part of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).
We have been told that the goal of CRT is equality. Equality has traditionally been defined by political conservatives as giving everyone an equal opportunity. This is a very narrow definition mostly suitable to economic traditionalists. In reality, equality as such is a myth. It is a state of mankind that is impossible to reach by human effort or by a top-down tyranny because not everyone begins from the same starting point in life. The truth is that the opposite of equality – inequality – is normative and this inequality is real.
For example, I am glad that my eye surgeon is more gifted than I am. We all differ from the very outset of birth depending on various characteristics such as God-given talents, family parentage, economic status, inheritance, propensity toward discipline in our work, major providential events, the influence of the church on our moral character, and many more factors. Some people have advantages from the very beginning and others will never catch up. To deny the reality of inequality is to have your head in the sand.
The children of the wealthy go to Ivy League schools. Some white people are born into poverty in Appalachia, and some black people are born into poverty in city ghettos. This demonstrates inequality, not equality. To witness inequality as it relates to race, all one needs to do is watch an NCAA basketball game, and you will see that the modern definition of equality is a fiction. Ironically, in America, sports are still based on ability and not race, and there is obvious inequality among the races. There is no government-mandated quota on the basketball court. The hometown university wants to win desperately. No one dare mention the obvious. This is a prime example of an arena where the emperor is wearing no clothes.
Yes, there is a true sense in which all people are equal. It’s called biblical equality! Biblical equality is about all mankind being equal as the seed of sinful Adam, equal in judgment before God’s law, and equal in need of salvation in Christ. This is the sense that the word is used in the Declaration of Independence. Equality defined in any other way is a fairytale.
However, there is now a new word making its way into the mainstream media and it is called equity. In the business world, equity refers to the ownership of corporate or personal wealth as opposed to possession by means of debt. It’s all about who owns the capital, the investor or the creditor. It’s primarily an accounting or monetary term. Equality is a myth. On the contrary, equity is a potential reality. It’s an important part of the major history of many nations including the Soviet Union and China.
The term equity is being used in the sense of the necessity of taking wealth from an oppressive class and transferring it to an oppressed class. It is a word that has as its goal the illegal transfer of wealth (equity). Wealth is power and power must be distributed evenly across all genders, classes, and races. Another term regularly used is reparations. Biblically, it is a form of envy. It is a form of theft.
Equality will never become reality. It can’t because God did not create men equal according to the modern definition of the term. However, equity may become reality, but it can only be accomplished by force. The only instrument who can accomplish equity is one with absolute power. In modern America, this is the federal government. Not surprisingly, it has been reported by the Associated Press that President Biden has officially backed the creation of a congressional committee to study reparations. According to a recent news report, Evanston, Illinois is the first major city in America to establish a reparations fund.
The whole theology of CRT (and it is a religion) is about how white men obtained their equity by oppressing minorities. For this movement to be successful, the dialogue must be kept on the level of a class of people. Individual judgment is not allowed. This is the Marxist motif.
We all agree that some individuals did obtain equity illegally and sinfully, and some individuals did not. The discussion of equity on an individual basis provides sanity and justice to the dialogue. However, seeing mankind through the lens of individuality is not permitted in this discussion by the powers that be. It’s all about pitting one class or gender against another for the purpose of transferring wealth or equity. To condemn a godly man as a thief is as disgusting as praising a thief as godly man. Therefore, for the CRT proponent, the issue must always be defined in terms of a class-struggle. Guilt is easily imputed on a class or gender basis. Being part of the white male class makes you guilty. This is the Bible turned upside down and it negates the gospel.
Many in the church are signing on to this new religion, and are now co-sponsors of Neo-Marxism, not always openly, but sometimes just through the complicity of silence. Because much of the church has rejected God’s law as a standard of truth and justice, she has now adopted most of the basic tenets of CRT. False guilt, because we are part of a class, has now replaced the true guilt of individuals standing before the law of God. Victimhood is the possession of minorities, and white-western man as a class must pay for its past sins by giving up its wealth. Most people will happily go along with all of this until they come knocking on their door demanding what they own.
I am afraid that it will continue to make tremendous progress via political legislation backed by the church. A Neo-Marxist Revolution is in process and I fear that much of the church has aligned herself with this new revolution. CRT demands tyranny, and Christians will go along happily just as they did in Nazi Germany until it begins to impact them personally. Discussions about equality always result in a demand for equity. Don’t be deceived. It’s all about equity, not equality – stupid.
